Banks
Only the Central Bank authorized dealers and authorized depositories
may deal in foreign currencies, Under the Exchange Control Regulation,
Section 43, of the Laws of Belize (1980). Additionally, the permission of
the Central Bank is required in order to secure a loan from outside Belize
which involves a foreign currency and to service repayment of foreign
dept. Foreign investors are required to register any investments made in
Belize with the Central Bank to facilitate the repatriation of profits,
dividends, etc. The approvals from the Central Bank are easily secured for
lawful and approved enterprises.
Foreign exchanges accounts can be
opened at local banks with the consent of the Central Bank.
There
are five commercial banks that serve the country of Belize. Banking hours
vary depending on the bank and the location. Most banks have branches in
the six districts.
Most banks offer ATM, Credit Cards, Travelers
Cheque and Money Order Services.

Lamanai Field Research Center (LFRC).
LFRC’s mission it to promote the sustainable utilization of Belize’s cultural and natural resources for the
benefit of the Belizean people, through research in the Lamanai area, and through national education and ecotourism
opportunities. The Lamanai Field Research Center (LFRC) has been in operation as a not-for-profit entity since 1992.
It was formally established as a Belizean non-profit organization in 1998. Through its research related programs and
by way of associated revenue, the Lamanai Outpost Lodge supports LFRC.
Green Hills Butterfly Ranch and Botanic Garden
.
Green Hills offers tours of their butterfly ranch and botanic garden, the experience is educational based and is also
research orientated. The main flight area makes it possible to study interactions between different butterfly species
while smaller breeding units make it possible to study individual species. In addition, there is ongoing research
in other areas not necessarily directly related to butterflies. Both Jan Meerman and Tineke Boomsma are well known
in Belize for their environmental, taxonomic and ecological studies and much attention is devoted to conservation
activities.
